CWRFC took the field on another cold and rainy Saturday for their last home game of the season against a tough SUNY Oswego team. Colgate began the match with a slower start compared to their usual explosiveness. Oswego took advantage of their larger size and was able to counter-ruck and get through our defensive line. However, Colgate was able to hold Oswego down to one try scored during the 22nd minute of the match. The rest of the first half remained scoreless as both teams went back and forth on the muddy pitch.
Oswego got off of the ball quickly during the second half and scored during the 3rd and 8th minutes (with only one try converted). They scored again in the 61st minute. Joining the lineup throughout the second half were finishers Dira Odrick ’19, Sophie Shaffer ’22, and Nicole Ventura ’22. CWRFC got close to the try line several times, but it was not until Sophie Schaffer ’22 scored her first career try that we were able to get on the board (not converted). Oswego scored the last try of the game in the 78th minute (converted). Colgate was not discouraged, though, and continued to play their style of rugby, keeping the intensity of the match high. The game ultimately ended, though, with a score of 29-5, Oswego.
A huge shoutout to the Sophie Shaffer ’22 for her first career try, Mackay Peltzer ’19 and Anna Hart ’20 for being amazing captains, Coach Chapman for a great season of improvement, Mr. Baxendell for the support and food, and all of the seniors – we love you and we look forward to competing with you one last time this spring!
