Colgate Women’s Rugby competed against SUNY Geneseo on October 20th, 2018. The starting lineup for the match was as follows:

CWRFC took the field on a beautiful fall day on Academy Field against a tough SUNY Geneseo team.  Colgate got off to a quick start with captain Anna Hart ’20 diving into the try zone to put Colgate ahead (not converted). Dira Odrick ’19 joined the lineup just minutes into the half. Colgate maintained possession of the ball for most of the half. CWRFC showed great communication and ball movement on the attack but came just short of the try zone. The half ended at a score of 5-0.

The Colgate Women’s Ruggers took the field in the second half hungry for more tries. Joining the lineup throughout the second half were subs Emelei Klein ’19, and Sarah Neubecker ’22. In the 46th minute, SUNY Geneseo won the ball of off a scrum and was able to break through Colgate’s defensive line to score a try (not converted). CWRFC kept a strong mentality, knowing that they had to respond by coming out with even more intensity and grit. Amy Gilbertson ’20 found her way into the try zone in the 52nd minute put Colgate back in the lead (not converted). Colgate wanted to keep the attack going. In the 55th minute, Grace Schreiber ’21 found a gap in the SUNY Geneseo defense to score a breakaway try which she converted. Geneseo wouldn’t give up just yet, winning possession off of a scrum to score a try in the 59th minute (not converted). In the 63rd minute, Maddy Kardek ’21 ran the ball wide outside the SUNY Geneseo defense to score a breakaway try which was converted. Just 5 minutes later in the 68th minute, Angie Parrizzi ’22 ran through three SUNY Geneseo defenders to score her first career try! The try was not converted. Colgate remained strong on defense for the remainder of the game, not allowing SUNY Geneseo to gain any offensive territory. In the 76th minute, Captain Mackay Peltzer ’19 found her way into the try zone (not converted). To end the game, Maddy Kardek ’21 received a pass out wide into open territory and ran to score yet another breakaway try (not converted)!  The game ended with a Colgate win: 39-10!

We look forward to our next match on Academy Field at 11am on Saturday October 27th against University of Rochester.  Winning this weekend puts us in the State Championship match on 11/3.  Our match against Rochester will determine which seed we are. The ultimate goal is to get to the NSCRO National Round of 16 on November 10th. Location and times for 11/3 and 11/10 are TBD. Go ‘Gate!
