CWRFC took the field on a rainy and chilly Saturday morning at Ithaca.  The first half had a lot of back and forth play. Neither team was able to break through the line or gain ground, and both teams displayed a lot of physicality. Ithaca came close to scoring a try, but the Colgate defense remained strong and held up a try.  The half ended with a try-less score of 0-0.

The Colgate Women’s Ruggers took the pitch in the second half wanting to maintain the momentum that they generated towards the end of the first half.  Joining the lineup throughout the second half were subs Emelei Klein ’19, Andrea DeHoyos ’20, Sophie Shaffer ’22, and Angie Parrizzi ’22.  In the 53rd minute, Emily Yin ’21 picked up the ball off a scrum and weaved through Ithaca’s defensive line to dot down a try which was converted by Grace Schreiber ’21. CWRFC had great communication and moved the ball smoothly while on the attack, but was unable to find the way into the try zone.  Off of a lineout, Grace Schreiber ’21 got possession of the ball and was able to run outside the Ithaca defense to score a try which was not converted. Joining the lineup throughout the second half were subs Emelei Klein ’19, Andrea DeHoyos ’20, Sophie Shaffer ’22, and Angie Parrizzi ’22.  In the 67th minute Grace Schreiber ’21 received an offload from Sophie Shaffer ’22 and dodged the Ithaca players to score a breakaway try. Another breakaway try was scored by Jess Dolcimascolo ’22 at the 70 minute mark. Jess Dolcimascolo showed great speed in her 50 meter dash down the field where she scored her first career try!  The rest of the game remained scoreless and ended with a Colgate win: 24-0! This was a great way to end regular season play as we advance to the playoffs this coming Saturday.

A huge shoutout to Jess Dolcimascolo ’22 for her first career try and the forwards in the scrum for winning nearly every single one. As always, a HUGE thanks to all of the parents, alumni, and fans that support us–we couldn’t be here without you all! We look forward to our next game on Academy Field against SUNY Geneseo on October 20th. Go Gate!
